Export from Colombia
without opening a company here
Excolbi acts as the exporter of record. The shipment leaves under our name, using our international trading company status, and we answer for the legal and customs side before the Colombian authorities.
Who this is for
Two profiles reach us through the same door. The first is the foreign buyer who found a Colombian supplier and does not want to deal with the export: no company in Colombia, no familiarity with the paperwork, and no appetite for wiring a deposit without guarantees. The second is the Colombian company that wants to start selling abroad and has never exported.
In both cases the obstacle is identical: the operation requires a legal exporting entity, customs documentation and someone accountable inside Colombia. That is precisely what Excolbi provides.
How we work
We act as intermediaries in the export of Colombian products through our international trading company status. We handle the entire legal and formal side of the foreign trade operation; you export through our company.
For long-term arrangements we work with supply contracts: we source the product in Colombia, negotiate the market price and export on a recurring basis. Several of the companies we serve today started with a single trial shipment.
The customs bridge
What most people want to avoid is not the transport but everything around it: the customs broker, the port, the tax authority, the foreign-exchange regime. Setting that up on your own usually takes weeks of paperwork — sometimes months — before the first shipment, and for a company that exports regularly it is also where the risk sits: a badly prepared document goes unnoticed until customs reviews it.
With us the operation leaves under the Excolbi name and we answer for the legal, foreign-exchange and customs side. You pay a fee on the value of the goods plus whatever services the operation generates — customs handling, warehousing, transfers — and receive an official invoice. Traceability stays on our side.
What we export
We move very different categories, and each one carries its own documentary and packaging requirements:
- Textiles and apparel
- Clothing
- Flowers
- Cosmetics
- Pharmaceuticals
- Machinery
- Furniture
- Fitted kitchens
If your product is not on the list, ask before ruling it out — there is almost always a way.
International parcel service
Not every sale abroad justifies a formal export. When what leaves is a sample, a small order or an urgent spare part, the route is the international parcel service: it goes sooner, it costs less and it does not drag along the paperwork of a full export.
We move it two ways. International courier carries parcels and documents door to door, with a tracking number. Courier Freight is the next step up: air export with simplified customs, under your own name and ID, for when the sale already needs an export invoice but not the full formal procedure.
If you are not sure which one applies, ask us before you pack. It comes down to weight, declared value and what documentation your buyer at destination requires.

How to import from Colombia to the US: the Colombian side, the US side and who does what
Importing from Colombia to the US takes two sets of formalities: the export side in Colombia, with invoice, export declaration and proof of origin, and the entry side in the US, handled by an importer of record. Under the US–Colombia trade agreement most goods can enter duty-free if origin is claimed. If your Colombian supplier cannot export on their own, a Colombian trading company can export on their behalf.

Shipping from Colombia to the US comes down to weight. Small parcels go by courier, door to door. From about 100 kilos per shipment, air cargo to a US airport costs roughly half of an express courier, and large, non-urgent volumes go by ocean. Since the US ended the low-value exemption in 2025, every commercial shipment needs a customs entry and may pay duties.

The US imports from Colombia mainly crude oil, gold and precious metals, cut flowers, coffee and fresh fruit such as bananas and avocados. US imports from Colombia were close to 18 billion dollars in 2025, according to US Census data. Most of these goods can enter duty-free under the US–Colombia trade agreement when origin is claimed.

What buyers ask us most
Do I need to be registered as an exporter in Colombia?
No. Excolbi is an international trading company: the export leaves under our name. You need no exporter tax ID, no Colombian company and no registration before the Colombian customs authority.
Do you buy the goods or only move them?
Either is possible. We can act as intermediaries for a product you already negotiated with your supplier, or source the product in Colombia, negotiate the price and export it to you. In the second case we work as your buying agent.
What documents do I have to provide?
In most cases, your company details at destination and the invoice or quotation from your Colombian supplier. We generate the rest of the export documentation.
Do you export to any country?
Yes. We run frequent operations to Panama, Spain, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, Curaçao and Venezuela, but we export anywhere. What changes between corridors is the cost and the entry paperwork, not our ability to move the cargo.
What does being a "customs bridge" mean?
That you do not have to deal with a customs broker, the port or the Colombian tax authority to export: the operation leaves under the Excolbi name and we answer for the legal, foreign-exchange and customs side. You bring the goods and the buyer; we bring the rest, with an official invoice and end-to-end traceability.
I already paid for the goods in Colombia. Can I export this way?
No. The trading-company route requires the payment to arrive from abroad to Excolbi, which then pays the supplier. If the money already moved inside Colombia, the route is Courier Freight, which exports under your own name and ID.
